Environmentally and People Friendly

An added generational benefit of PrairieFence™ is the fact it is environmentally friendly (green building materials). PrairieFence™ is manufactured using “appropriate and sustainable technologies” or the considerate balance between resources used and results gained.

PrairieFence™ is primarily composed of reclaimed HDPE and wheat straw. The use of HDPE diverts used, non-biodegradable plastic (plastic water jugs, milk bottles, bleach & fabric softener bottles, liquid detergent bottles, etc.) from overburdened, public landfills and gives it new life by creating green building supplies.

In addition, wheat straw, an abundant and renewable resource which traditionally is an unused byproduct of the agricultural industry, is also reclaimed and utilized in the production of PrairieFence™.

PrairiePicket™ can be interchanged with traditional wood pickets whereas other composite fencing products require very expensive “systems or adders” in order to install. No special tools or hardware are required for installing PrairieFence™, making it the industry’s most people friendly product on the market.

Sustainable

The wheat straw used to produce PrairieFence™ is an annually renewable resource produced by the agricultural industry. Prairie forests of wheat straw are grown annually in America’s Heartland whereas trees require 20 – 40 years to grow before harvesting and timber harvesting has a negative impact on fragile forest ecosystems.

Recycling

Heartland’s R&D efforts trace back to 1994 with focuses of utilizing recycled plastics rather than virgin plastics to help detour waste from filling already over-flowing landfills. Some plastics can take up to one million years to degrade in landfills making them ideal materials to use for long lasting composite lumber products, but undesirable to bury in the ground for land filling. PrairieFence™ is fully recyclable and can be reused to produce similar or different building materials in the future.

Green

PrairieFence™ is GreenSpec® Listed by Building Green, a leading institute that promotes and certifies products for eco-friendly, green status. In addition, PrairieFence™ is also certified under the USDA’s BioPreferred Program, a program used by the Federal Government to substantiate the classification of green products since the Government is now mandated to purchase eco-friendly, green products wherever possible.

Regional

Heartland’s main office and manufacturing facility are located in Torrington, WY while a branch office operates in downtown Denver. The wheat straw used to produce PrairieFence™ is grown by regional farmers and a large percentage of the recycled plastic used is sourced from the Rocky Mountain region.

High Performance

While PrairieFence™ is in every regard green and eco-friendly, it is very much a high performance building material that has been fully developed and tested. PrairieFence™ is stronger than competing wood composite and vinyl fencing products, retains color better and has a more natural wood look and feel.

Zero Toxicity

Heartland uses no toxic additives, chemicals or materials in its product or production process in contrast to vinyl fencing and decking producers.
